Harris County taxman: My Bad. Pay less taxes
"It was brought to my attention last night that there was an error on some of those tax bills. Specifically, Houston Community College System taxpayers who have an Over-65 or Disabled Homestead Exemption should have received a $120,000 exemption. Instead they received a $90,000 exemption, the same as last year," Sullivan said on Tuesday.

Harris County officials kill bill to allow online voter registration -
Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Mike Sullivan, a Republican whose job includes being the county voter registrar, denied that politics played any role in his position. He also denied that officials had organized a unified effort to derail the bill.
"Our state is not ready," Sullivan said, arguing he had seen glitches from time to time in voter data that made him believe his office was not prepared to integrate information from the Texas Secretary of State and the Department of Public Safety into an electronic system.

Texas must adopt online voter registration. At least 39 states currently or will soon offer online voter registration. Online voter registration systems are much cheaper than the paper system. In Arizona, the old paper system cost the state approximately 83 cents to process each form, as opposed to just 3 cents for each online voter registration. It also empowers Texans to directly update their own voter information instead of relying on clerks for manual data entry. In many of the states with online voter registration systems, it is by far the most popular option for people, particularly for young people who are getting their first experiences in the electoral process.
